BSL Academy provides legal professionals with rigorous, evidence-based education in behavioral science to improve legal judgments and decision making, reduce bias, and enhance fairness in legal practice.

Our Vision

To make behavioral science as indispensable to the law as precedent and statute, so that legal decisions in courtrooms, negotiations and policymaking are less prone to bias and become fairer, more trustworthy and grounded in decision literacy.

Your principal instructor

Niek Strohmaier, Ph.D.

Niek is an assistant professor at Leiden University's Law School and an attorney at a leading Amsterdam-based law firm specialising in corporate litigation, restructuring and insolvency. His PhD dissertation was on the psychology of legal decision-making. He studied Psychology at Utrecht University, where he completed his Master's degree cum laude, and started his doctoral research at Leiden Law School in 2016. Alongside it he completed Leiden's Advanced LLM in Law & Finance, also cum laude.
